An overview of the LCD cell resizing process — the foundational technology developed by Lawrence E. Tannas Jr. that allows standard commercial LCD panels to be physically cut and resealed to custom active area dimensions for aerospace, defense, and specialized industrial applications.
// Foundational IP
Electronic displays are physically reshaped and/or resized to meet custom specifications for special applications such as avionics, where Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) are not typically used. Customization includes cutting the physical display to specified dimensions to fit into a target opening, and resealing the display to preserve proper cell spacing and assure basic functionality. Additional modifications may include relocation of TABs or COGs, circuit replacement, polarizer changes, and ruggedization via bezel and frame attachment.
